Nashua, NH – The Rivier College men's soccer team drew
first blood in their season opening match against the Regis College
Pride by scoring a goal in just under 7 minutes of the first half,
but couldn't hold on to the lead or add any more goals as they fell
to the Pride by a score of 2-1.
Junior David Durao (W. Hartford, CT) scored the
first Rivier goal of the season just 6 minutes and 28 seconds into
the first game of the season. Durao took a pass from team captain
Chris Nugent (Camberley, Surry – England)
and planted the ball in the back of the net for the early 1-0 lead
over the Pride of Regis College.
The Raiders held the lead until 7 minutes had passed in the
second half when Pride freshman Lance Okey (Oregon, OH) tied the
game at 1 a piece off a pass from fellow freshman Jeffrie Parrish
(Framingham, MA). Both sides played strong for the remainder of the
game with each teams getting chances to score, with each teams
respective keeper making saves to give their team a chance to win.
With just 2 minutes left to play, William Sedewitz (Framingham, MA)
set up Ibriham Alpha (Pennsauken, NJ) for the game winning goal.
Alpha placed the ball just out of reach of Rivier's keeper
John Jarvis (Hooksett, NH) to give the Pride the
2-1 advantage and the win.
Jarvis tallied 10 saves for the Raiders while his counterpart
Ryne Tillman (Bedford, MA) recorded 4 saves in the victory.
The Raiders will travel to Mitchell College in New London, CT
for an 11:00 AM game on Sunday, Sept. 5.
