CASTLETON, Vt. - The Spartans continued their high-scoring ways on Saturday evening, notching a 7-0 shutout victory over Rivier College at Spartan Stadium.
The win marked Castleton's the fourth straight conference game with at least five goals as the team improved to 4-0 in the North Atlantic Conference for the first time since 2009. It was a balanced scoring attack for the Spartans as five difference players found the back of the net, including a hat trick from junior Kealy Chipman (Bellows Falls, Vt.).
Chipman got Castleton on the board at the 17:17 mark as she tapped in a pass from Rachel Preusser (Craryville, N.Y.) for the 1-0 advantage.
Chipman added assist in the 23rd minute, dishing the ball to Gabrielle Sikora (East Montpelier, Vt.) who chipped in her first goal of the season.
Blake Wardwell (Bridgewater) made it a 3-0 contest just 1:48 into the second half and Kristy Pinkham (Brandon, Vt.) scored her first goal of the season at the 38:47 mark off a Wardwell pass to increase the lead to 4-0.
Preusser added her 13th score of the season five minutes later for the
5-0 advantage and Chipman put home her second goal of the evening at the
55:28 mark off a pass from junior Caitlin Briggs (Germanton, N.Y.).
Chipman concluded the scoring with just 2:14 remaining in the contest, taking a pass from sophomore Brynn Cayia (Berlin, Vt.) to notch her second hat trick of the season.
Senior Bridget Dusha made played all 70 minutes and made two saves in net for her first shutout of the season. Rivier's Makenzie Flagg (Shirley, Mass.) made 20 stops in net for the Raiders.
The Spartans improve to 6-6 overall and return to action Oct. 11 when the team travels to face Drew University in New Jersey.
