(New Haven, CT) The Rivier College Raiders Women's Basketball team travel down to New Haven, CT and brought home their first GNAC win of the season as they defeated Albertus Magnus College, 85-77.
Freshman Deanna Purcell (Hudson, NH) paced the Raider offense as she scored a game high 30 points. She also collected 10 rebounds for her first double-double of her career. Her sister, senior Amandra Purcell (Hudson, NH) contributed 23 points and 4 assists while sophomore Laura Yesu (Longmeadow, MA) contributed with 12 points, her first double-digit game of the season. Sophomore Jaclyn Penniman (Dudley, MA) collected 10+ rebounds for the 4th time this season.
The Raiders held a slim two point lead at half, 40-38 before Deanna Purcell took control of the game in the second half. She contributed 17 of her 30 points in the second stanza as the team put up 45 points en route to the victory.
Rivier will enjoy the next few weeks off before their next contest. Over the winter break, the Raiders travel out to Thousand Oaks, CA for a pair of games against Bowdoin College and Hobart College on December 30th and 31st.
