Cambridge, MA - #10 Rivier College (10-4 overall; 3-0 GNAC) fell to Division I Harvard University 3-1 by the game scores of 22-25, 18-25, 25-23, 23-25. The Raiders, who struggled most of the match with consistency, found themselves down 2-0 to the Crimson before they were able to put together a steady third set victory. Rivier had their chances in the fourth set but once again fell to mental miscues and inconsistent play to close out the match with a 23-25 loss. First year player Sam Kazlas (Allentown, PA) was a bright spot in the Raiders loss. The 6'4 outside hitter pounded out a match high 16 kills on 26 attempts with 6 errors for a .385 hitting percentage. Kazlas also had 3 digs, 2 blocks, and 1 service ace in the match. First year players Aaron Almario (Alhambra, CA) and Cameron Walker (Costa Mesa, CA) came off the bench to give the Raiders some life. Almario tallied 5 blocks and 5 kills in just 2 sets while Walker registered 4 kills, 4 digs, 3 blocks, and 2 ace serves in 3 sets. Alex Xenidis (Shelton, CT) had 7 kills and 4 digs while Steve Visentin (Cheshire, CT) had 45 assists and Jared Andreozzi (Barrington, RI) had 11 kills. Taylor Lindner (Cheshire, CT) and Drew Corwin (Sudbury, MA) had team highs with 3 ace serves and 5 digs respectively.
Rivier will travel to Nazareth College in Rochester New York for the Golden Flyer Invitational on Friday 2/11 and Saturday 2/12. On Friday 2/11 Rivier will play Thiel College at 6pm followed by an 8pm match against #4 Nazareth College. On Saturday 2/12 Rivier will challenge #3 University of Santa Cruz at 12pm followed by a 2pm match against #8 Medaille College.
