Simmons Strong Second Half Sparks Win Over Rivier

Nashua, NH – The Simmons College women's lacrosse team used a strong second half to propel the Sharks to a 15-9 victory over GNAC foe Rivier College. The Sharks withstood a barrage of shots during the first half to come away with a 6-5 halftime lead and then poured on the offense in the second half to outscore the Raiders 9-4 en route to the 15-9 win.

Rivier outshot the Sharks 17-12 in the first half, but 9 saves by goal keeper Kelly Last kept the Sharks in the hunt and three first half goals by Rachel Wallace allowed Simmons to keep pace with the Raiders and take a 6-5 lead into halftime. Wallace picked up three more goals in the second half as the Sharks took over on offense and outshot the Raiders 15-11 over the final 30 minute.

Wallace led the Sharks with 6 goals and added 1 assist in the victory while teammates Lee Sutherland and Sarah Pontarelli added 3 and 2 goals respectively. Last finished with 12 saves while playing all 60 minutes for the win.

Rivier was led by Rebecca Wickens on offense who picked up a team high 5 goals. Freshman Jessica Amaral added 3 goals for the Raiders and Natalie Bonvie picked up 1 goal and 1 assist. Goal keeper Caleigh Bertolaccini allowed 15 goals and made 8 saves in the loss.
