Bangor, ME - The Husson Eagles field hockey team picked up their second North Atlantic Conference (NAC) victory with a 7-1 win over Rivier.
Sophomore Mariah Arno (Dover-Foxcroft, ME) paced the Eagles with 3 first half goals on a 9 shot effort (4 on net). Classmates Samantha Blanchard (Corinth, ME) andElizabeth Noddin (Skowhegan, ME) each added a first half goal to give Husson a 5-0 lead at the break.
Kayla O'Reilly (Marshfield, MA) helped Rivier show signs of life, potting a Raider score off a Cora Healey (Bedford, NH) assist early into the second half. First year goalkeeper Makenzie Flagg (Shirley, MA) played well despite earning the loss, making 13 saves against a barrage of Eagle shots.
Kristen Capen (Leeds, ME) earned the win to go 5-0 on the season. The Eagles turned to a handful of reserves in the second half, and the first year players took advantage of their playing time. Emily Murphy (Leeds, ME) scored off a Hayley Thibeau(Gardiner, ME) assist with just under 6 minutes remaining. Amanda Stubbs (Keene, NH) was the third rookie to get on the board, shooting a laser from the left side that found the back of the cage with 1:38 left to play to put the Eagles ahead 7-1 at the end of the game.
Husson returns to action tomorrow against New England College, with the Sunday game scheduled for 2:00 pm. Rivier continues their stay in Maine, traveling to NAC foe St. Joseph's on Sunday for a noon start.
