Payne's Hat Trick carries Rivier past Daniel Webster

(Nashua, NH) The Rivier College Raiders got a strong effort from sophomore Mariah Payne (Concord, NH) as they defeated cross-town foe Daniel Webster College, 7-0 in Women's Soccer action.

Payne got the Raiders on the board within the first three minutes as she netted her first goal of the game. Just four minutes later sophomore Hilary Hee (Colchester, VT) placed one in the upper 90 to give Rivier (2-6-1, 0-4 GNAC) a 2-0 lead. The goal was Hee's first of the season. Senior co-captain Kristi Davis (Byfield, MA) finished the first half scoring as she placed a shot past the Daniel Webster keeper at the 38 minute mark.

Sophomore Christina Parent (Loudon, NH) recorded her first goal of 2011 as she began the second half scoring for Rivier. Parent's goal, which was unassisted, was recorded at the 53 minute mark. Payne would get goals number two and three inside of 10 minutes as she buried shots off of brilliant passes by freshman Mary Donovan (Milford, NH) and junior Jillian Pilotte (Londonderry, NH). Senior Monica Rivera (Nashua, NH) finished off the scoring attack as she netted her first goal of the year. Sophomore Brittany Balkus (Milbury, MA) recorded the assist on Rivera's goal.

Sophomore Christine Surber (Langdon, NH) started in net for the Raiders and played the first 23 minutes before she gave way to classmate Cassandra Brown (Somersworth, NH).

Daniel Webster senior goalkeeper Amy Waller (Berlin, MA) recorded 20 saves in the loss.

Rivier will return to action this Saturday afternoon as they host GNAC opponent Saint Joseph's College of Connecticut in a 1 o'clock contest. Daniel Webster will next play on Saturday as they travel to Southern Vermont College.
