(West Hartford, CT) The Rivier University Women's Volleyball team improved their 2012 record to 13-5 overall and 5-0 in the GNAC with two 3-0 victories over the University of Saint Joseph and Lasell College this afternoon at a tri-match held at the University of Saint Joseph in West Hartford, Connecticut.
The first match of the day featured the Raiders against Saint Joseph. Rivier cruised to the 3-0 win by scores of 25-17, 25-17 and 25-18 behind a strong performance from junior Nicole Boucher. The Windham, NH native laced 8 kills (game high), 3 service aces and 2 total blocks. Freshman Emily O'Reilly (San Francisco, CA) recorded 22 assists and 7 digs – both game highs. Sophomore Samantha Gagnon (Rollinsford, NH) played brilliantly as she collected 5 digs and classmate Rebekah Weaver (Epping, NH) had a dig as well. Freshman Michelle Davis (Hampton, NH) and sophomore Taylor Davis (Machiasport, ME), no relation, had 4 and 5 kills respectively.
Rivier then proceeded to sweep Lasell College in the second match of day with scores of 25-17, 25-17 and 25-14. Senior Kenna Finlayson (Derry, NH) and junior Nicole Peacock (Warwick, RI) combined for 25 kills – 13 and 12, respectively – as Rivier won their 13th game of the season. Peacock recorded an incredible .571 hitting percentage to go along with her 2 total blocks. Junior Jessica Amaral (East Providence, RI) was the defensive presence in the game as she was able to come up with a game high 11 digs. O'Reilly once again led the game with 30 assists. Freshman Nikki Deluga (Cotuit, MA) recorded 9 digs and senior Meghan Farrell (Marlborough, MA) had a kill in the win.
The Raiders will return home for their first game in front of RivNation since September 18th as they host both Emmanuel College and Emerson College in a Columbus Day GNAC Tri-Match. The first match is set for 11am between Rivier and Emmanuel. The final match of the day will be a rematch of last season's GNAC Championship Match, Rivier vs. Emerson. Rivier defeated Emerson in the last matchup in an epic 5 set match at Emerson College.
