(Nashua, NH) The Emerson College Lions came into the Muldoon Gymnasium and escaped with a close 69-64 win over Rivier College, handing the Raiders their 9th straight loss.
Rivier (4-18 overall and 2-13 inside of GNAC play) held a slim one point lead after a Nick Walch (Dedham, MA) basket in the paint with 4:36 left to play. However, Emerson was able to score the final five points and bring home their sixth victory of the season.
The Raiders were led by sophomore Tom Poitras (Bow, NH) who scored 15 points and junior Brian Troy (Westmoreland, NH), who added 13 points of the bench. Also contributing to the team's 27 bench points was freshman Mike Colby (Londonderry, NH) who knocked down 3-of-6 three point attempts on his way for a game total of 12 points. Sophomore Jake Nelson (Nashua, NH) was the fourth Raider to record double-digits with 12 points as well.
With the win, Emerson improves to 6-18 overall and more importantly 6-12 in the GNAC. The Lions offense was paced by Nathan Firn who scored a game high 16 points. Alex Dempsey provided 11 key points off the bench in the win.
Rivier will return to action on Thursday night as they host Mount Ida College in a 7pm tip-off. The Raiders will close the 2011-12 season on Saturday afternoon with a Senior Day game against Johnson and Wales (RI). Game time is scheduled for 1pm.
