(Nashua, NH) The Rivier College Raiders shot 43.4% from the floor however it was not enough as the visiting Saint Joseph's College Monks took the first game of this weekend's home-and-home series, 73-61.
Rivier sophomore Jake Nelson (Nashua, NH) was the game's leading scorer as he used six three pointers on his way to 25 points. Classmate Tom Poitras (Bow, NH) was the only other Raider to reach double-digits as he added 16 points. Freshman Mike Colby (Londonderry, NH) contributed 8 points off the bench but it was not enough to beat a good Monk squad. With the loss, Rivier falls to 4-17 on the season and currently have a 2-12 mark in conference play.
Both senior Zach O'Brien (Schenectady, NY) and sophomore Matthew Medeiros (Westport, MA) paced the Saint Joseph's offense with 22 points each. Sophomore Nicholas Jobin (Westbrook, ME) added 11 points as the Monks improved to 16-6 overall and 12-5 in GNAC competition.
These same two teams will take the court again on Saturday as it is Saint Joseph's turn to host. It will be senior day for the Monks and the game time is set for 3pm. The next Raider home game will be a Valentine's Day special as Emerson College will visit the Muldoon Gymnasium. Game time is set for 7pm.
