Raiders rally for road win over Anna Maria

Paxton, Mass. – The Rivier Raiders defeated the Lady AMCATS 21-12 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) women's lacrosse action today at AMCAT Field. The loss drops AMC to 1-9, 0-7 GNAC while the Raiders improve to 3-6, 2-5 GNAC.

Rivier was led by Jessica Amaral's (sophomore, E. Providence, RI) game high 9 points on seven goals and Lauren Brett (junior, Otisfield, ME) who tallied five goals and an assist. Hanna Wyatt (sophomore, Merrimack, NH) had 6 points (3goals, 3 assists) of her own while Savannah Neuwirt (freshmen, Newbury, NH) found the twine 3 times. Caleigh Bertolaccini continued to work well in the pipes for the Raiders, turning in 6 saves to back up the win.

Pacing the scorebook for the AMCATS was senior Katie Schebel (Ludlow, Mass.) who tallied 5 goals on the day. Teammates Sandy Acosta (Lawrence, Mass.) and Amanda Hevy (North Brookfield, Mass.) chipped in with two goals while Mackenzie Coakley (Millbury, Mass.) had a hat trick.

Anna Maria took a short lived 1-0 lead on an unassisted score by Schebel at the 26:40 mark, Rivier ripped off the next six goals to grab a 6 – 1 lead with 15 minutes to play. Anna Maria added another goal at 14:22 when Sandy Accosta scored off a pass from senior Amanda Hevy to cut the lead to 6-2. The Raiders outscored AMC 5 – 2 down the stretch to hold a 11 – 4 advantage after thirty minutes.

Anna Maria opened up the second half with a man-up goal by Schebel and a eight meter score by Mackenzie Coakley to cut the deficit to 11-6.

Rivier then went on a 6 – 1 run to increase the lead to 10 at 17 –7. Coakley scored again for the AMCATS to get one back at 17 – 8 but the Raiders responded with three more goals. Anna Maria outscored the Raiders 4 – 1 over the last seven minutes but it was too little too late as they fall 21 – 12.

The Raiders return to action on Wednesday, April 18th at home versus St Josephs, CT, at 6:00 pm.
