PAXTON, Mass. (9.15.12) – The AMCATS tied with the visiting Rivier Raiders in conference play at AMCAT Field on Saturday afternoon with a final score of 1 – 1. Freshman midfielder Devaunte Maynes (Bellport, NY) scored the AMCATS only goal on a penalty kick at 32:06. The AMCATS put immense pressure on Rivier's defense, totaling 29 shots attempted to Rivier's 7 shots, but were unable to capitalize on their opportunities throughout the second half and overtime. The tie puts Rivier at 0-2-1 (0-1-1 GNAC) on the season, and the AMCATS at 2-2-1 (0-1-1 GNAC) overall.
Freshman Midfielder Nico Spadorcia (Stoneham, MA) tied the game up for the Raiders at 41:10 with an unassisted breakaway goal.
Freshman Andrew Dahl (Marlton, NJ) led the AMCATS in net with 2 saves, while Raiders junior goalie Matthew St. Peter (Colchester, VT) saved 7 AMCAT shots on goal.
Anna Maria's best chance to put the game away came with six minutes remaining in the second overtime. Senior forward Cody Moules (Billerica, MA) laced a rocket towards the top left corner of the Raiders net, but St. Peter came up with the game saving stop.
The AMCATS return to action at home on Wednesday evening, as they host Albertus Magnus College at 7:00 PM. Rivier will be back in action tomorrow afternoon when the Pilgrims of New England College travel to the top of the hill. Game time is set for 1pm.
