(Bangor, Maine) The Rivier University Men's Soccer team capped off a remarkable 2013 regular season this evening as they defeated Husson University on the road 2-1. The win was the Raiders' fourth of the season and it marks the highest win total since 2009.
Rivier (4-11-1 overall, 2-6-1 GNAC) received an early goal from freshman Anthony Capozzi (Windham, NH) as his unassisted goal at 15:13 gave the Raiders a 1-0 lead. That would be all of the first half scoring as the teams played evenly over the final 30 minutes.
Freshman Greg Freiman (Hampton, CT) increased the lead to 2-0 as his goal at 52:22 gave Rivier some insurance – which they would eventually need.
Husson closed the deficit to one at 71:18 when Alain Tuyishime netted a goal with the assits from Stephen Berenyi and Joshua Bean.
Rivier would hold off some Husson runs over the final minutes to preserve the win.
Freshman goaltender Gary Archambault (Auburn, NH) made six saves on the evening while Husson's Jay Cuttle made one save on three shots.
The Raiders were outshot on the evening 22-6.
Next up for Rivier is a trip to the Great Northeast Athletic Conference Tournament where they will travel to Newton, Mass for a matchup with #1 seeded Lasell College. Game time is set for 1pm on Sunday, November 3rd.
