(Nashua, NH) The Rivier University Raiders defeated the visiting Daniel Webster College Eagles this evening, 7-0 in front of about 100 fans at Raider Field. The win is the first for Rivier in 2013 and is also the first win for 1st year Head Coach Laura Ray.
With the victory, Rivier improves to 1-3-1 while Daniel Webster falls to 0-6.
Sophomore Holly Slocum (Holden, MA) got the scoring started just 16 minutes into the game as she riffled a pass from senior Lauren Tamposi (Hollis, NH) off the inside of the crossbar for her second goal of the season. Freshman Jacquelyn Russo (Saugus, MA) would net her first collegiate goal at the 27 minute mark to make it 2-0 in favor of the Raiders. Rivier freshman Colby Createau (Nashua, NH) then added two more goals before the horn sounded for halftime as Rivier took a commanding 4-0 lead.
Sophomore Kelsey Harding (Dracut, MA) then opened the second half as she netted an unassisted goal at 50:20. Slocum would add her second goal of the night before freshman Megan Caron (Tyngsboro, MA) capped the scoring with her first collegiate goal at 73:36.
Senior net minder Cassandra Brown (Somersworth, NH) did not see a shot on net as she earned her first win of the season. Daniel Webster's Kerry Hager made 19 saves as she faced a total of 26 shots on goal this evening. The Raiders outshot the Eagles 41-0.
Rivier will return to the pitch on Sunday afternoon as they travel to Mount Ida College for a 2pm GNAC kickoff. Daniel Webster will be back in action as they host Mitchell College to begin NECC play. Game time is set for 3pm on Saturday, September 21.
