Raiders Earn First Clean Sheet Victory in Program History

(Nashua, New Hampshire) The Rivier University Men's Lacrosse team is off to a 1-0 start after defeating the Green Mountain College Eagles by a score of 17-0. The NCAA contest was hosted by Rivier up on Raider Field on a frigid first day of March.

The Raiders held the upper hand from the opening faceoff until the final whistle. Leading the way offensively was senior attacker Danny Hooper (Wakefield, RI) with a team high 6 goals and 1 assist. Hooper also added 10 groundballs in the winning effort. Sophomore Kyle Graham (Londonderry, NH) had a team high 14 groundballs and was 8-11 on face-offs. Graham also had five points in the game including a goal and four assists. In his first conference game as a Raider freshman Sean Given (Londonderry, NH) had solid five point game with 2 goals and 3 assists. Junior Ryan Woolaver (Tewksbury, MA) added two goals and two assists for the victors. While the offense handled the scoring the defense was taking care of business. Both goaltenders, sophomore Clark Plummer (Londonderry, NH) and junior Jim Varela (Merrimack, NH), combined for seven saves in the first clean sheet victory in program history.

Nick Parsons had a team high six shots and four groundballs for the visiting Eagles. John Haggerty contributed four groundballs and was 3-5 on face-offs. Goalkeeper Luke Carey was solid between the pipes for Green Mountain as he made 15 saves on the afternoon.

The Raiders kick off their 2014 season 1-0 and they take the field next on Tuesday when they will face off against Emerson College under the lights. The loss drops Green Mountain to 0-1 and they will next Saturday when they will face Wells College.
