(Nashua, New Hampshire) Playing for the first time on the turf field here on campus, the Rivier University Softball team plated 35 runs in two wins over Fisher College this afternoon in a non-conference contest. The wins improve Rivier's record to 3-6 while the Falcons of Fisher College fall to 0-14.
Game One: Rivier University 15, Fisher College 4 (Final/5 innings)
Sophomore Libby Sammon (Rockland, Mass.) tossed four innings of one-run ball as the Raiders earned their first win since the season's opening day in South Carolina. The 6-0 right hander was dominate as she allowed just one run on one hit while striking out two. Freshman Destiny Jordan (Lawrence, Mass.) came in relief and allowed three runs on five hits in her only inning of work.
Offensively for Rivier, freshman Shaylyn Freitas (Pelham, NH) was the star as she went 2-for-2 with 5 RBI in game one. Jordan was also perfect as she was 3-for-3 with 2 RBI and senior Nicole Peacock (Warwick, RI) added 2 RBI of her own as she finished game on going 2-for-3. Freshman Nicole Scotti (Concord, NH) had 3 RBI in the win.
Fisher was led by freshman Kristina Brown (Dixon, California) who went 2-for-2 along with throwing out a run from behind the dish. Sophomore Jayla Vega (Hoboken, NJ), senior Michelle Fabiano (Nashua, NH) and sophomore Jade Bracero (Hoboken, NJ) all added RBI base hits for the Falcons in the fifth inning. Vega pitched the complete game – going 4 innings and allowing 15 runs (8 earned) on 9 hits and striking out two.
Game Two: Rivier University 20, Fisher College 1 (Final/5 innings)
The Raiders used a 10 run, 3rd inning as the finshed the two game sweep with a 20-1 final score. Sammon earned her second win of the day with four innings of one-run ball. Senior Kirstie Clark (Brentwood, NH) tossed a scoreless inning of work for Rivier.
Sophomore Kathryn Mostone (Pelham, NH) had a career day at the dish as she recorded six RBI on a 2-for-3 night. Scotti continued to stay red hot as she scored four runs and was 3-for-3 with 2 RBI. Sophomore Lia Bobek (Hollis, NH) added 3 RBI and classmate Allyson Nolan (Willington, Conn.) went 2-for-2 in the win.
Vega had a solid second game at the plate for the Falcons as she was able to go 3-for-3 and Brown added an RBI double to account for all of the Fisher offense in game two. Freshman Victoria Park (Lynn, Mass.) pitched all four innings allowing 14 earned runs on 16 hits.
Next up for the Raiders will be a non-conference contest with Wheelock College on Tuesday night on the turf. The Falcons meanwhile will host Mass Maritime in their 2014 Home Opener on Thursday evening in Lynn, Mass.
