(Myrtle Beach, South Carolina) The Rivier University Softball team opened their 2014 season with a doubleheader sweep of Hilbert College, 3-0 and 8-3 down in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
Game One: Rivier University 3, Hilbert College 0 (Final)
The Raiders plated one in the first and two in the fourth as sophomore Taylor Miller (Haverhill, Mass.) tossed a complete game shutout to give Rivier its first win of 2014. Miller allowed just four hits over her seven innings of work while issuing one walk and striking out two.
Freshman Shaylyn Freitas (Pelham, NH) made an immediate impact in her first game as she went 2-for-3 with a run scored and sophomore Kathryn Mostone (Pelham, NH) added a RBI double. Freshman Nicole Scotti (Concord, NH) went 1-for-2 with a stolen base and run scored.
Game Two: Rivier University 8, Hilbert College 3 (Final)
The Raiders used a pair of four run innings to earn the doubleheader sweep against Hilbert College.
Sophomore Libby Sammon (Rockland, Mass.) tossed all seven innings as she allowed three runs (two earned) on eleven hits and struck out four.
Senior Nicole Peacock (Warwick, RI) went 1-for-4 with a triple, RBI and two runs scored and Scotti knocked in three RBI on a 2-for-3 night to lead the Raider offense. Freshman Destiny Jordan (Lawrence, Mass.) added a pair of hits, 2-for-4, and scored twice in the win. Sophomore Lia Bobek (Hollis, NH) went 2-for-4 with a RBI and two runs scored from the nine spot in the order.
The Raiders will return to action tomorrow as they face Fitchburg State University and Penn State University-Berks in a split doubleheader.
