(Nashua, New Hampshire) The Rivier University Softball team dropped a pair of Great Northeast Athletic Conference contests this afternoon at Raider Field to visiting Albertus Magnus College, 8-3 and 12-7. The Raiders fall to 7-13 overall on the season and are now 1-7 in the GNAC while Albertus Magnus improves to 8-8 and 2-4.
Game One: Albertus Magnus College 8, Rivier University 3 (Final)
Senior Nicole Peacock (Warwick, RI) and freshman Shaylyn Freitas (Pelham, NH) had three hits apiece however it was not enough as Albertus Magnus used a four run first inning to capture their first GNAC win of the season, 8-3.
Freitas had her first career home run and 2 RBI while classmate Nicole Scotti (Concord, NH) went 2-for-3 in the day's opening game. Sophomore Libby Sammon (Rockland, Mass.) went the distance inside the circle as she allowed 8 runs (7 earned) and 13 hits while striking out just two batters.
Albertus Magnus' Brianna Longley (Milford, Conn.) tossed a complete game allowing three runs on 11 hits and recording two strikeouts. Alyssa Puccilli (Milford, Conn.) went 2-for-4 with a HR and a RBI while Megan Kelly (Bronx, NY) knocked in two RBI with her own 2-for-4 performance. Carli Matrisian (Milford, Conn.) went 3-for-3 in the win.
Game Two: Albertus Magnus College 12, Rivier University 7 (Final)
Albertus Magnus exploded for 7 runs in the fifth inning as they took the second game by a 12-7 final.
Freitas continued to swing the bat well as she had another three hit game and freshman Destiny Jordan also went 3-for-4. Sophomore Allyson Nolan (Willington, Conn.) hit a solo Home Run and Peacock added two hits and three runs scored.
Jordan gave up 10 earned runs in five innings as she took the loss inside the circle in the nightcap. Sammon came on in relief and gave up a pair of run in her two innings of work.
Brittney Urciuoli (Newington, Conn.) collected four RBI and scored three times on three hits to set the table for the Falcons. Puccilli added another two hits, two RBI and Veronica Hribko (East Haven, Conn.) ended the day with a 2-for-4 showing. Mastrisian also had a pair of hits in the win.
Long earned her second win in as many games as she allowed 7 runs on 12 hits and struckout three.
The Raiders will look to bounce back on Friday evening as they host the University of Saint Joseph in a 4pm twinbill at Raider Diamond. Albertus Magnus will travel to New Rochelle for a pair of games on Tuesday evening.
