Game Recap: Softball |

Softball drops a pair to Emmanuel, 3-0 and 12-4

(Boston, Mass.) The Rivier University softball team dropped their second straight GNAC double-header this evening with a pair of losses to Emmanuel College at Roberto Clemente Field. The Raiders fell in the first game by a 3-0 final and the second game, 12-4. The losses see the Rivier overall record drop to 5-9 and 0-6 in the GNAC while Emmanuel improves to 9-3 overall, 4-0 GNAC.

Game One: Emmanuel College 3, Rivier University 0 (Final)

The Raiders offense struggled against Emmanuel starter Jill Kilcoyne as freshman Hailey Reed (Nashua, N.H.) was the lone Raider to record a hit in the 3-0 loss.

The game was scoreless until the fourth inning when Emmanuel was able to push across a run. The Saint would extend the lead to 3 when Catherine Davis (Wethersfield, Conn.) smacked a two-run homer in the fifth to account for all the scoring.

Rivier junior pitcher Taylor Miller (Haverhill, Mass.) suffered the loss tossing five innings, allowing three runs on seven hits while striking out three. Junior pitcher Jess Shanahan (Merrimack, N.H.) worked a perfect sixth frame in relief.

Game Two: Emmanuel College 12, Rivier University 4 (Final/5 innings)

Rivier's bats would come alive in game two but it wasn't enough as the Saints were able to capture the double-header sweep with a 12-4 victory.

The Raiders scored all their runs in the top of the second inning on four hits. Reed walked to start the frame and after stealing second, scored on an RBI single by Kathryn Mostone (Pelham, N.H.) to make it a 2-1 game. Sophomore Destiny Jordan (Lawrence, Mass.) doubled to move Mostone to third before freshman Emily Knoops (Tewksbury, Mass.) tied the game with an RBI single to left driving in Mostone. Knoops moved into scoring position by stealing second and a two-RBI infield single by freshman Tori Dugan (Norwalk, Conn.) gave the Raiders their first lead of the evening at 4-2.

Junior Jess Shanahan (Merrimack, N.H.) suffered the loss allowing eight runs (three earned) on eight hits while striking out two.

The Raiders will look to get into the win column on Thursday, April 2 when they host Suffolk University at 1:30 PM for a GNAC DH on the Turf Field. Emmanuel returns to action on Wednesday, April 1 when they host Simmons College at 6:30 PM for another GNAC doubleheader.
