(Nashua, N.H.) The Rivier Women's Lacrosse team fell this afternoon against the visiting New England College Pilgrims 16-8 in a non-conference contest. With the loss, the Raiders drop to 0-3 on the season. With the win, the Pilgrims improve their record to 1-1 on the season.
The Raiders had their hands full with the Pilgrims in this one. Using impressive runs of 4-0 and 5-0, the Pilgrims took the attack to the Raiders for the entire game. Rivier started the game with an excellent free position shot goal from Catherine Connolly (). The Pilgrims would fight back however with a 6-1 run following the goal. As a result, the Raiders fell behind early and were unable to come back from the deficit. The Raiders trailed 10-5 at half.
The second half began with a New England College goal scored by Kasondra Moniz (). Rivier was able to respond with a nice 3-0 run with goals coming from Taylor Lirakis (Tewksbury, Mass.), Savannah Neuwirt (Newbury, N.H.), and Shae O'Connell (Bridgewater, Mass.) Unfortunately for the Raiders, New England College would finish the game on a 5-0 run. Jacquelyn Lane (Scituate, Mass.) was able to record 2 goals on the run for the Pilgrims.
Rivier had good performances turned in by Amanda Wickens (Tyngsboro, Mass.) recorded 2 goals and 1 assists for the Raiders while teammates Taylor Lirakis (Tewksbury, Mass.) and Shae O'Connell (Bridgewater, Mass.) were each able to add an additional two goals each for the Raiders.
New England College had good performances turned in by Allison Granata (Norwalk, Conn.) and Kasondra Moniz (East Providence, R.I.) were each able to score 4 goals for the Pilgrims. Gabriella Bigos (Branford, Conn.) and Jacquelyn Lane (Scituate, Mass.) each added another 3 goals for the Pilgrims.
In their next contest, the Rivier Women's Lacrosse team will play host to Lasell College on March 14th at 3:30pm in the team's GNAC conference opener. As for the Pilgrims, they will be traveling to South Carolina to take on Wesley College.
