Women's Basketball: Grumblatt pulls down 23 rebounds in loss to Colby-Sawyer

NASHUA, N.H. – The Rivier University Women's Basketball team dropped a Great Northeast Athletic Conference contest this evening to visiting Colby-Sawyer College, 69-54 inside the Muldoon Gymnasium. The loss sends the Raiders to 4-11 overall on the season with a 0-4 mark against the conference while the Chargers improve to 11-5 and 1-2 in the GNAC.

Sophomore Alexandra Grumblatt (Manchester, N.H.) and freshman Heather Ries (Mont Vernon, N.H.) led the way for the Raiders as they each recorded a double-double on the night. Grumblatt finished with 11 points and 23 rebounds while Ries totaled 12 points and 10 rebounds for her first double-double in her career. Sophomore Cydney Lessard (Derry, N.H.) was the team-leader with 18 points scored and freshman Arianna Motivala (Nashua, N.H.) rounded out the double-digit scorers for Rivier with 11 points of her own.

Colby-Sawyer was guided by the efforts of senior Tianna Sugars (Oxford, Maine), who recorded her own double-double of 16 points and 14 rebounds. Also reach double-figures in two categories was senior Lexie Hamilton (Sunapee, N.H.) who finished with 12 rebounds and 11 assists. Freshman Sydney Noyes (Newbury, Mass.) came off the bench to provided addition insurance as she netted 12 points on 6-of-12 shooting from the field in the Chargers first conference win of the season.

Both teams will be back in conference action when they return to the court on Saturday afternoon. Rivier will travel to the University of Saint Joseph while Colby-Sawyer hosts Johnson & Wales University (R.I.). Both contests are slated for a 1pm tip-off.
