Men's Volleyball: Raiders earn two wins on the road.

(Chicopee, Mass) The Rivier University Raiders earned two wins on the road on Saturday after topping the Badgers of Northern Vermont University-Johnson and the Blazers of Elms College Blazers in Chicopee, Mass.  These two wins lift the Raiders to an overall record of 10-3.

Rivier 3, NVU-Lyndon 0

The Raiders offense was led by junior Ernesto Montes (Huntington Park, Cali) boasting nine kills with a .643 hitting percentage.  Several others contributed to the score line including Sophomore hitter Mike DeAngelis (Coventry, R.I.) who hammered down eight kills, while junior Matt Hagan (Burnt Hills, N.Y.) and freshman Thomas Miller (Clifton, N.Y.) nailed down six kills apiece.

Even setters junior Eric Roderick (Salem, N.H.) and junior Andrew Panameno (Los Angeles, Cali) collected four and five kills respectively, while handing out 18 assists apiece.  

Collectively the Raiders tallied eight aces, Panameno owned three of them.

The final scores were 25-18, 28-26 & 25-14.

 

Rivier 3, Elms 1

Raiders senior hitter David Smith (Clinton, OH) came out swinging, scoring a season high 26 kills and 4 aces.  Sophomore Sokunbuth Ly (Lowell, Mass) wasn't playing around either as he tallied 15 kills hitting at .480 and Sophomore Kristjan Cortez (Fremont, Cali) contributed 10 kills with a .391 hitting percentage.

Setter Pedro Campos (Downey, Cali) handed out a season high 52 assists.  The veteran currently sits on top of the Great Northeast Athletic Conference leader board in assists per set with 9.65. 

Campos also led the Raiders defense with 16 digs.  Just behind him was senior Cam Roth (Coventry, R.I.) with 14 digs.

The final scores were 26-24, 28-26, 20-25 and 25-17.

Up next, a conference showdown between two programs with identical GNAC records with four wins and zero losses.  The Raiders will challenge the Leopards of Wentworth Institute of Technology on Wednesday night in the Muldoon Gymnasium a 6PM.
