Colby-Sawyer (1-1 GNAC 1-1 ).Rivier University (0-1 GNAC 0-1)

How It Happened:

A attack-minded Colby-Sawyer took an early and aggressive lead against the Raiders right out the gate.  First to score for the Chargers was Hannah Marquis with an unassisted goal just two minutes into the game.  Next was Sarah Morin and Briana Couture from two free position attempts.   After that the visitors just ran off with the game.  The Raiders pulled off eight attempts at goal forcing the Chargers goalie to make four saves to keep the lead. They also showed some resistance on defense collecting eight groundballs and forcing five turnovers by the end of the half.

The Raiders struck early in the first half after senior Nicole Mansfield (Acton, Mass.) earned the Raiders their first goal of the night off a dish from junior Breana Abilheria-Cargill (Cumberland, R.I.) during the first minute of the game. The Chargers responded right out of the draw control to neutralize the Raiders.  However, after some back and forth the Raiders found the back of the net twice, both from free position shots. Junior Tara Saliany (Nashua, N.H.) tallied her first goal of the season off an assist credited to Mansfield.  Abilheria-Cargill struck one more time with four minutes remaining in the game.  The score was settled at 18-4 in favor of the visitors.

Inside the Numbers:

  • Junior Breana Abilheria-Cargill captured 3 ground balls, two goals and one assist.
  • Freshman Caitlin Newell (Litchfield, N.H.) took four shots, scooped up five ground balls
  • The Raiders went 9-11 on clearances.
