Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Volley Opens Conference Play with a Tri-Match Sweep

NASHUA, NH: The Rivier University women's volleyball team opened conference play this morning in a tri-match against Simmons University and the University of Saint Joseph's. The Raiders took the first match against Simmons 3-2, and the second against USJ 3-0.

 THE BASICS:

- Date: 9/25/2021

- Score: Rivier 3, Simmons 2: Sets (25-21, 20-25, 25-22, 24-26, 15-12). Rivier 3, USJ 0: Sets (25-15, 25-15, 25-19)

- Records: Simmons (7-3, 1-1 GNAC), USJ (2-6, 0-3 GNAC), Rivier (4-4, 2-0 GNAC)

GAME ONE

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-  Game one was a back and forth battle between two talented young teams. The Sharks Jayla Parnell had a match high 18 kills, helping them force the fifth set on Rivier. She was followed by Claire Conners, who tallied 14 kills of her own. Simmons offense was run through Kat Simeoidis, who posted 51 assists and 16 digs.

Cadia Greene (North Kingstown, RI) was the hot hand for the Raiders as she put together her best game this season with 15 kills and 14 digs. Lily Blodget (Dunstable, MA) was just behind her with ten additional kills for Riv. Avery Pollard (Ballston Lake, NY) picked up four kills, 17 digs, and 32 assists.  

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

-  Kills: Simmons 56, Rivier 42

-  Assists: Simmons 54, Rivier 40

-  Digs: Simmons 74, Rivier 70

GAME TWO

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- Game two was a fast-paced affair that was in the Raiders hands the entire match. They held a lead in each set and finished it 3-0.

- Blodget continued to swing well, putting down 14 more kills to help lift Riv over the Blue Jays. Greene also had another great game from her outside hitting position, even swinging from the left side of the court. She finished the match with 12 more kills and three digs. Lily Sills (Carlisle, MA) contributed another ten kills in match two, with Pollard adding another 34 assists to her stat line.

- Rivier women's volleyball will be back in action on Wednesday when they host Eastern Nazarene at 7:00 PM.
