NASHUA, NH: Rivier women's hockey suffered an overtime loss to Salve Regina this afternoon at Conway Arena.
THE BASICS:
- Date: 1/8/23
- Score: Salve 3, Rivier 2
- Records: Salve (6-7), Rivier (2-9-2)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Raiders found themselves up 1-0 through two periods after Briana Paxson (Eagle River, AK) scored the go-ahead goal 3:19 into the second period on a power play opportunity. Paxson got a rebound and was able to bat it in under the Seahawk tender.
- Salve, like yesterday's matchup, went on to score two back-to-back goals in the third period. Emma Gotthelf tied the game up on a power play goal. The Seahawks took the lead 10:31 into the period on a Riley Esposito score. Esposito dove for the puck after a saved shot bounded her way and was able to flick the puck into the lower right corner of the net. The Raiders would score the last goal in regulation off a turnover by Salve. Brianna Parent (St. Albans, VT) beat two Seahawk defenders on the breakaway to score the game-tying goal.
- In the overtime period Maddie Cox was able to net the game-winner for Salve after skating across the crease to fire the shot in the bottom right corner.
- Madelyn Morgan (Riverside, CA) was tagged with the loss after saving 57 shots in net. Livia Krzywulak got the win to improve to 2-0 on the season. She made nine saves in the win.
