Softball Splits with Plymouth State

NASHUA, NH: Rivier softball took one of two from Plymouth State in non-conference action Thursday night on Raider Diamond.

THE BASICS:

- Date: 4/6/23

- Score: Rivier 4, PSU 2. PSU 13, Rivier 6

- Records: PSU (10-8), Rivier (6-14)

HOW IT HAPPENED: Game One

-  The Raiders got on the board with a bang in the bottom of the first on a two-run shot to left center field by Christina Panagiotopoulos (Lowell, MA).

- Plymouth would get on the board in the fifth on a wild pitch to bring the game to 2-1. Rivier would tack on two more in the bottom of the sixth to increase their lead to three at 4-1. Kayla Miles (Londonderry, NH) would plate one on a double to left field. Courtney Marioles (Hudson, NH) would add the last run on a sac fly to center field. Jade Guertin would make it a two-run game and the final after she brought in one for the Panthers in the seventh on a single to the left side.

- Sydney Greeno (Shirley, MA) got the win (2-6) after going 5.1 innings allowing nine hits, one earned, and two strikeouts. Marioles would earn her first save of the season. Emily Antrim was tagged with the loss (3-3) after giving up nine hits and four runs.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS: Top Performers

-  Panagiotopoulos was 1-for-3 with a two-run home run.

-  Miles was 2-for-4 with an RBI double.

-  Guertin was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED: Game Two

-  Game two was all over the place through the first four innings, along with having a rain delay. The Panthers took a 5-0 lead with two runs scoring in the second and an additional three runs in the third. The Raiders would respond with a five-run inning in the bottom of the fourth. Three runs came across on walks and wild pitches. Alyssa Gerardi (Manchester, NH) had the biggest impact in the inning with a two-run single up the middle.

-  Plymouth would respond the very next inning with their own five-run inning to go back on top 10-5. After a couple of errors by the Raiders left fielder, two would come across to score. Guertin, Caroline Macri, and Abigale McGee all had RBI hits in the inning.

- The Panthers would add three more in the sixth inning to make the game 13-5. Sarah Frazier (Londonderry, NH) staved off the eight-run rule with a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the sixth to get the final of 13-6.

- Kate McGrath got the win (4-2) after going 3.1 innings after allowing three hits, one earned, and two strikeouts. Marioles was tagged with the loss (2-4) after going four innings allowing nine hits, three earned, and three strikeouts.

-  Keelie Wells was 2-for-4 with 3 RBIs and 3 runs scored.

-  Guertin was 2-for-3 with 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored.

-  Gerardi was 2-for-3 with 2 RBIs.
