Women's Volleyball Takes Down Falcons in Straight Sets

NASHUA, N.H. – The Rivier women's volleyball team swept Fitchburg St. in non-conference play. With the win, the Raiders improved to 9-7 (4-1 GNAC), while the Falcons fell to 0-11 (0-1 MASCAC).

Rivier came out swinging, as senior Brynn Roche and junior Callie Nanos tallied a pair of kills each, giving the Raiders an early 5-2 lead. Service run by sophomore tandem, Sam Driendand Hannah Raab closed the opening set 25-16.

The second and third sets were much like the first. First-year middle blocker Savannah Dunne played a key role in Rivier's dominant second-set performance, adding three kills to propel the Raiders to a 17-5 lead. First-year Lydia Brakefield would enter the game at 18-6, proceed to go on a five-point service run, and allow the Raiders to close out set two, 25-7.

The Falcons kept it close in the early goings of set three, holding the Raiders to just a two-point lead. Back-to-back service aces from senior Ryan Hicks and a kill from junior Ali Rivera would give the Raiders the push they needed to take the set 25-15.

Rivera led the team with seven kills, Nanos with five, and Dunne and Driend with four. Hicks led the assists category with 20 and first-year Lily Seibel logged a team-high seven digs in the contest.

The Raiders are back in action, Wednesday, Oct. 9, to take on Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) opponents, Emmanuel (Mass.). First serve is set for 7:00 p.m. at the Muldoon Center.
