NASHUA, N.H. – The Rivier women's volleyball team secured a sweep over Albertus Magnus after falling in five sets in the morning match to Lasell in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) tri-match on Saturday at the Muldoon Center.
With the results, the Raiders moved to 6-6 (2-1 GNAC).
Rivier has a week off before hosting Colby-Sawyer and Saint Joseph (Conn.) in a GNAC tri-match on Saturday, Sept. 28 as part of Alumni Reunion Weekend.
Lasell 3, Rivier 2
In a first set with eight tie scores and three changes to the lead, Rivier came out in front, 25-21, capped off by a Callie Nanos kill. Lily Sills notched a team-best four kills at a .250 clip in the frame.
In an equally contested second set, it was the visitors who came away victorious, 25-22, as the Lasers hit at a .333 team percentage.
Lasell raced off to a 25-16 win in the third set to take a 2-1 match lead.
With Rivier down to its last chance, the fourth set featured 10 ties and five lead changes while going to extra points as a Kaitlyn Miller ace capped off a 27-25 triumph for the Raiders, forcing a fifth and final set. Riv had its best offensive showing of the match in the fourth set, hitting .222. Brynn Roche led the way with four kills at a .375 clip.
The fifth set proved dramatic, with seven ties and two lead changes. Tied 9-9, Lasell used its first timeout and recorded two straight points to regain an 11-9 edge. Trailing 14-12, Rivier called a timeout to regroup and was rewarded with the next two points coming off Lasell errors. The Raiders recorded back-to-back errors following the tie to drop the match by a narrow margin.
Ryan Hicks posted 44 assists and four service aces in the setback. Miller and Hannah Raab each recorded double-digit dig totals, with 12 and 10 respectively.
Rivier 3, Albertus Magnus 0
Rivier was victorious by set scores of 25-20, 25-12, 25-19 to earn the sweep over Albertus Magnus to improve the Raiders' record to 15-0 in contests against the Falcons.
Sam Driend posted six kills on 14 errorless swings to hit .429 in the victory. Lily Seibel passed out eight helpers in the third set.
