NASHUA, N.H. – The Rivier field hockey team dropped Tuesday night's Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) contest against Colby-Sawyer, 3-0.
With the loss, the Raiders fell to 2-5 (1-3 GNAC), while the Chargers improved to 5-3 (3-1 GNAC).
The Raiders took charge offensively totaling three shots on goal, while controlling possession for the majority of the first quarter. The Chargers later mounted a counter and scored with just 24 seconds remaining as Abby Olden found twine following penalty corner to give Colby-Sawyer a 1-0 lead.
The Chargers would strike again, this time in the opening minute of the second quarter. Olden, with help from Brooke Farquhar, scored her second goal of the game to provide Colby-Sawyer a 2-0 advantage going into the half.
Coming out of the break, the Raiders looked to find their offensive stride once again to cut the deficit. A late pair of penalty corners led to shots from first-year Kelsey Bain and senior Madison Bovill, providing Rivier with two great scoring chances that missed the mark.
Early fourth quarter offensive pressure from Colby-Sawyer would add insurance as Farquhar found the back of the net to make the score 3-0.
Senior goalkeeper Kylie Coupal recorded seven saves in the contest as Rivier was narrowly outshot, 16-13.
The Raiders are back in action Friday, Sept. 27 to kick off Alumni Reunion Weekend as they take on Simmons in GNAC play. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m. at Merrill Field.
