BOSTON, Mass. – The Rivier women's soccer team shutout Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) opponents Simmons, 1-0, Tuesday evening, to secure the number two seed in the GNAC Postseason Tournament. With securing the number two seed, the 2025 women's soccer team tied the 1999 program for the highest seeding heading into postseason play in program history.
With the win, the Raiders improved 12-4-2 (11-1-1 GNAC), while the Sharks fell to 4-10-1 (2-10-1 GNAC).
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Rivier controlled the pace of play in the first half, outshooting Simmons 11-1 through the first 30 minutes of action
- With just over five minutes remaining in the frame, junior Maya Leach found the back to the net to break the deadlock and put the Raiders in front heading into the break
- The Raiders continued to offensive pressure in the second half, outshooting the Sharks 13-1
- Despite its efforts, Simmons was able to turn away all eight shots on target to keep the score the same at the final whistle
