SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The Rivier women's ice hockey team came up just short on Saturday evening, falling 4-3 in overtime to Western New England at the Olympia Ice Center.
With the loss, the Raiders dropped to 0-2, while the Golden Bears improved to 2-0.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Senior Jessica Driscoll opened scoring for Rivier 12 seconds into the contest, connecting with first-year Marina Bassett and junior Rebecca McKelvey.
- The Golden Bears leveled the score at the 1:29 mark.
- WNE took the lead on a power-play goal at the 14:45 mark of the second period.
- First-year Casey Roth netted her first collegiate goal at 9:48 of the third period to even the score 2-2, off a feed from junior Kayley Young.
- Western New England regained the lead four minutes later.
- Sophomore Keegan McGaheran scored with seconds remaining to send the game to OT
- The Golden Bears found the golden goal 3:20 into the extra frame to secure the 4-3 win.
