PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Rivier men's basketball team routed former conference opponents, JWU (Providence), 85-57 to capture their first win of the 2025-25 campaign.
With the win the Raiders improved to 1-1, while the Wildcats fell to 0-2.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Both teams traded scores through the first four minutes of action, with Rivier holding a 7-6 lead
- A three from junior Theo Briscoe IV sparked a 19-6 run for the Raiders that ended with Briscoe making two from the free-throw line
- JWU (Providence) cut the lead to six with 7:37 remaining in the first half
- Rivier closed out the half on yet another 19-6 run with six different Raiders finding the basket on 7-12 from the floor and 2-4 from range
- Coming out of halftime, sophomore Matt Youngquist paced the offense with seven points, followed by Briscoe IV with six to put Rivier up 29 points
- Midway through the frame sophomore Steph Barnes and senior Izaiah Shaw-Glen each tallied four points in the 13-10 run to put the Raiders up 33
- The Wildcats closed out the contest on an 18-8 run, but Rivier's lead proved to be too great, giving them their first win of the season, 85-59
BOX SCORE BREAKDOWN
- As a team, the Raiders outshot JWU (Providence) 53.3% to 37.5%, 40.7% to 11.1% from three and outrebounded them 45-27
- Briscoe IV paced the with 25 points on 53.3% shooting, 7-13 from deep, and five rebounds
- Senior Robenson Baguidy followed with 15 points, seven assists, three rebounds, and four steals
- Barns and Youngquist added 11 and 10 points respectively
- Junior Jamari Williams recorded a game-high 15 rebounds

The Raiders return to action Wednesday, Nov. 12 for a non-conference road matchup with Nichols. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at the Nichols Athletics Center.
