NEWPORT, R.I. – The Rivier men's basketball team dropped a non-conference bout with Salve Regina, 75-70, Thursday evening at the Rodgers Recreation Center.
With the loss, the Raiders fell to 3-3, while the Seahawks improved to 4-0.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Junior Theo Briscoe IV opened the scoring with a three, giving Rivier the early lead.
- Both teams traded baskets through the opening minutes, keeping the game within a few points.
- Senior Izaiah Shaw-Glen led the way with six points in the paint over the back-and-forth stretch, followed by classmate Robenson Baguidy with five points.
- Just past the midway point of the first half, both teams held firm at 23-18 in favor of Salve Regina following a scoreless of 3:08.
- Shaw-Glen fueled a 12-3 run, adding nine points to his total to take the lead a 33-31 lead into halftime.
- The Seahawks tied the game immediately to open the second half, but Baguidy answered with a jumper to regain control.
- Sophomore Matt Youngquist drilled a key three to give the Raiders a 50–48 lead with 11:52 remaining in the half.
- Consecutive plays from Baguidy and first-year Daylen Dalcour grew Rivier's lead to 60-50 with 8:52 to go.
- Salve Regina responded with a late surge, eventually reclaiming the lead in the final minutes.
- Sophomore Steph Barnes knocked down a free throw with 2:21 on the clock to bring the Raiders withing six.
- A late three from Baguidy kept Rivier within one possession, but the Seahawks 10-point advantage with 25 seconds to play closed out the contest, 75–70.
BOX SCORE BREAKDOWN
- Shaw-Glen led the offensive charge with 24 points, adding four rebounds and a block.
- Baguidy contributed 19 points, with team-highs in rebounds (7) and assists (7).
- Briscoe rounded out the top performers with 11 points on 4-7 from the field, including 50% from distance
