Women’s Volleyball Sweeps Regis (Mass.) on Senior Day

NASHUA, N.H. – The Rivier women's volleyball team defeated Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) opponents Regis (Mass.) in straight-sets to wrap up the regular season Saturday morning in the Muldoon Center.

With the Senior Day victory, the Raiders improved to 16-13 (10-3 GNAC), while the Pride fell to 17-13 (9-4).

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Rivier opened the contest with a 5-0 with junior Sam Driend and sophomore Lydia Brakefield each recording a kill, forcing Regis (Mass.) into an early timeout
  • The Pride rallied back to cut the Raiders' lead to two, 8-6
  • Both squads traded scores halfway through the set with Rivier holding a slight advantage
  • Driend and Brakefield combined for three kills to pull ahead and force Regis (Mass.) to use its second timeout of the set
  • The Pride rallied once more out of timeout, this time leveling the contest 19-19
  • Senior Ali Rivera kicked off the 3-0 set sealing run for Rivier with a kill, claiming the set 25-21
  • Regis (Mass.) held a one-point lead through the first nine scores of the second set
  • After knotting the set up 5-5, senior Callie Nanos tallied back-to-back services aces to put the Raiders in front for the first time in the frame
  • The Pride took the lead right back however, Rivier found its stride just past the midway point and closed out the set on a 17-8 run to take a 2-0 match lead
  • Regis (Mass.) started the third set jumping out to a 3-0 lead, but Rivier responded immediately with a 10-0 that began with a pair of kills from Dirend and ended with a kill from sophomore Savannah Dunne
  • The Pride chipped away at the lead eventually tying the set 13-13
  • From that point onward, both teams traded scores until the very end, but the duo of Brakefield and Driend seal the match for the Raiders, 29-27
BOX SCORE BREAKDOWN
  • Rivera recorded a team-high nine kills, followed by Brakefield with seven and Driend with 7
  • Sophomore Lily Seibel recorded a double-double with 24 assists and a game-high 13 digs
  • Senior Kaitlyn Miller added 10 digs on the back line for Rivier
