NASHUA, N.H. – The Rivier men's ice hockey team fell 5-3 to Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) foe Westfield St. Saturday evening at Conway Arena
With the loss, the Raiders fell to 1-9-1 (1-3-0 MASCAC), while the Owls improved to 6-4-0 (4-1-0 MASCAC).
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Rivier opened the contest, recording the first three shots for either side.
- Despite numerous chances by both teams, the score remained deadlocked at 0-0 after the first 20 minutes of action.
- Similar to the first period, the Raiders controlled the offensive zone, this time converting on an early opportunity just 3:53 into the period. First-year Mason Rudrud found the back of the net on a pair of helpers from classmate Aaron Sawicki and sophomore Michael Caparco.
- Westfield St. tied up the contest at the 8:56 mark of the second period, followed by another tally two minutes later to take their first lead of the game.
- Rivier answered the call with 7:59 remaining in the frame as the tandem of Sawicki and Caparco linked up with first-year Payton Kender to tie the game, 2-2.
- With 21 seconds left in the period, Caparco found Rudrud once again to regain the lead for the Raiders heading into the final 20 minutes of action.
- The Owls remained persistent in the third period, recording three unanswered tallies, including two on the man advantage, to take the game by a score of 5-3.
BOX SCORE BREAKDOWN
- Caparco led the team with three points, with Rudrud adding two points. Both ended with a +3 rating at the final horn.
- Sophomore goaltender Josh Kirton logged 46 saves in net.
