A Trio of Hat Tricks Propel Women’s Lacrosse Past Albertus Magnus, 18-2

NEW HAVEN, Conn. — Three Raiders recorded hat tricks as the Rivier women's lacrosse team dominated Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) opponent Albertus Magnus, 18-2, at Celentano Field on Wednesday afternoon.

With the win, the Raiders improved to 4-3 (3-1 GNAC), while the Falcons dropped to 0-6 (0-4 GNAC).

Rivier came out firing, scoring four goals in the first five minutes. Senior Sarah Lachance netted an early hat trick with three quick goals, while sophomore Sofia Cebrero added another. The offensive surge continued as Lachance tallied her fourth goal and Cebrero struck twice more, giving the duo the first seven goals of the game and propelling the Raiders to a 7-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Lachance secured her fifth goal early in the second quarter, followed by goals from first-year Keegan McGaheran and junior Bailey Carroll, extending the lead to 10-0 midway through the period. Cebrero then capitalized on a slick feed from senior Cassie Hemmerdinger, slotting the ball past the Falcons' goalkeeper to send the Raiders into halftime with an 11-1 advantage.

Rivier kept its foot on the gas in the second half as first-year teammates Ashlynn Ledoux and McGaheran notched the first two goals after the break, followed by sophomore Alysha Hok's first goal of the season. Ledoux struck again, and McGaheran completed her first collegiate hat trick as the Raiders pushed their lead to 16-1 entering the final quarter.

Junior Ashley Talbot and McGaheran wrapped up the scoring for Rivier, sealing an 18-2 victory.

Lachance led the team with eight points, tallying five goals and three assists while also collecting a team-high nine ground balls and causing six turnovers. Cebrero and McGaheran each posted six points on four goals and two assists. Ledoux contributed four points and three ground balls, while Carroll and Talbot chipped in with two points apiece.

The Raiders outshot the Falcons 38-7 and held a 41-27 advantage in ground balls. Additionally, Rivier led in caused turnovers (34-24) and draw controls (14-8).

Rivier returns to action on Saturday, March 29, for a home matchup against Colby-Sawyer and their Team IMPACT game at Joanne Merrill Field. The opening draw is set for 2:00 p.m.
