Baseball Closes Regular Season with Second Straight Walk-Off Over Colby-Sawyer

NASHUA, N.H. – The Rivier baseball team rounded out its regular season with a 9-8 Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) victory on Tuesday afternoon at Harvey Woods Field, coming in walk-off fashion for the second game in a row to sweep the season series with Colby-Sawyer.

The Raiders head into the GNAC Tournament winners of their last three games and with a record of 14-17 (9-7 GNAC). The Chargers finished their regular season with a 13-24 (7-9 GNAC) record.

Rivier got out to an 8-0 lead through five innings. Colby-Sawyer then put together a comeback over the seventh, eighth, and ninth innings to tie the score at 8 runs apiece.

The Raiders came up to bat in the bottom of the ninth and had their first two batters reach base on a single and a hit by pitch. With two runners on and two outs, sophomore Sebastien Reis came to the plate and notched a walk-off RBI singled to left to win it for the Raiders in the second consecutive game.

Junior relief pitcher Brendan Ferris got the victory, his third of the campaign. Sophomore starter Jake O'Connor threw the first two innings, striking out two Charger batters. Classmate Chris Volino came in next for two innings of work and struck out three batters faced.

Senior Kyle Hsu went 2-for-3 at the dish, and along with Reis, notched two RBI and scored once. Sophomore Liam Stott went 2-for-2 with two RBI and a run scored.

The Raiders earned the sixth seed in the GNAC Tournament, returning to postseason play for the first time in two seasons, and will face off against No. 3 Lasell on Friday, May 2 at 2:30 p.m. at Alumni Field on the campus of Mitchell College.
