HENNIKER, N.H. – The Rivier field hockey team fell to the Pilgrims of New England Col. (NEC) on Saturday evening at Don Melander Field by a final score of 3-1.
With the result, the Raiders dropped to 0-5 (0-1 GNAC), while the Pilgrims improved to 3-2 (2-0 GNAC).
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Pilgrims opened the scoring just over 7:30 into the game
- First-year Mary Kelley quickly answered for Rivier, scoring her first collegiate goal to even the contest at 1-1 just a minute later
- While the second quarter saw zero scores, the Raiders outshot NEC 4-2 , (3-1 SOG)
- NEC regained the lead just one minute and 19 seconds into the third quarter
- The Pilgrims added an insurance goal early in the fourth to seal the 3-1 victory
BOXSCORE BREAKDOWN
- Junior Brianna Spinelli logged a team high four shots, two on target
- The Pilgrims held the slight edge on shots on goal, 9-8.
- Senior goalkeeper Lily Gifford totaled six saves
- The Pilgrims had the advantage in corners, 16-5.
