Women's Soccer Bests The Monks

NASHUA, N.H.- The Rivier women's soccer team bested Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) foe Saint Joseph's College of Maine, 2-1, on Wednesday afternoon at Joanne Merrill Field.

With the victory, the Raiders improved to 4-3-2 (3-0-1 GNAC), while the Monks dropped to 2-4 (2-2 GNAC). 

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Monks struck first, finding the back of the net in the 14th minute.
  • The Raiders responded just one minute later, as Leah Morrier knotted the game at 1-1 with a strike from outside the 18-yard box.
  • The match stayed level at halftime, with Rivier holding a 14-5 edge in shots.
  • The Raiders broke the deadlock in the 73rd minute, with Bianca Casna heading in a Nadia Laxa corner to put them ahead 2-1.
  • Rivier kept up the pressure over the final 17 minutes, unable to convert, but held the Monks scoreless.  
BOXSCORE BREAKDOWN 
  • First-year Olivia Rosario and Senior Bri Nugent split time in the net to combine for three saves. 
  • The Raiders owned a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks. 
  • Morrier led the Raiders with four shots on goal and a goal.

The Raiders return to action on September 26 for a GNAC matchup with Elms College as part of Alumni Reunion Weekend. Prior to kickoff, the team will honor its three seniors and celebrate ICS Night. The first whistle is set for 7:00 PM.
