Women’s Volleyball Falls to UMass Boston

NASHUA, N.H. – The Rivier women's volleyball team dropped a four-set non-conference battle with UMass Boston, 3-1, on Wednesday evening at the Muldoon Center.

With the loss, the Raiders dropped to 5-8, while the Beacons improved to 6-8.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Both teams traded opportunities to open the match, with Rivier holding on to a two-point advantage
  • Junior Lacey Turner recorded an ace, and senior Ali Rivera followed with a kill, putting the Raiders ahead, 19-15
  • UMass Boston fought back, leveling the match 21-21 off the back of a 6-2 rally
  • Back-to-back kills from junior Sam Driend and sophomore Lydia Brakefield brought Rivier within one; however, the Beacons were able to seal the set a point later, 25-23
  • The second set was yet another hard-fought battle until UMass Boston took a four-score lead late in the set
  • Rivier battled back with the Beacons on set point and conducted a 6-0 run that included kills from Riviera and Turner, securing the frame 26-24
  • UMass Boston responded with a dominant performance in the third set
  • The Beacons got out to as much as a 14-point lead and went on to take it by a score of 25-12
  • UMass Boston jumped out to an eight-point advantage to begin the fourth set  
  • The Raiders chipped away at the lead and eventually tied the game at 18-18 off two consecutive kills from Rivera
  • With the Beacons on set point, Rivier answered once more with Driend sending the fourth to a deuce score
  • Both squads traded chances, but it would be UMass Boston that came out on top, securing the match 28-26.
BOX SCORE BREAKDOWN
  • As a team, the Raiders held a slight edge in digs, 73-68, and both teams were even with 12 aces apiece
  • Offensively, Rivera logged a team-high 18 kills with a .220 hitting percentage, followed by Driend, who added 14 kills and 14 digs
  • Sophomore Lily Seibel contributed yet another double, 32 assists, and 10 digs, while adding six kills on a .267 hitting percentage
  • Defensively, Turner recorded a team-high and personal best 18 digs

The Raiders return to the court tomorrow, Sept. 25, for a non-conference match-up with Framingham St. The opening serve is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at the Muldoon Center.
