NASHUA, N.H. – Five different goal scores powered the Rivier women's ice hockey team to its fifth straight victory Friday night at Conway Arena, a 5-1 win over Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) opponents Anna Maria, tying the program record for most consecutive wins in program history.
With the win, the Raiders improved to 10-4-0 (5-1-0 MASCAC), while the AMCATS fell to 4-10-1 (2-3-1 MASCAC)
HOW IT HAPPENED
- After nearly 15 minutes of scoreless play in the first period, first-year Casey Roth fired one in top shelf off a feed from junior Tia Picardi to give Rivier a 1-0 lead.
- Anna Maria responded quickly, netting the tying goal just 39 second later on a powerplay opportunity.
- The AMCATS remained on the offensive in the final minutes of the opening period, outshooting the Raiders 9-0, but were unable to convert, leaving the score 1-1 after one.
- Rivier recorded its second tally 7:40 into the second period as Picardi logged her second point of the evening, scoring off helpers from first-year Mary Kelley and senior Olivia Schultz.
- Just under seven minutes later, senior Molly Dukesherer and first-year Ella Spinazola connected with sophomore Lillian Wojcicki, who dangled between two defenders and fired a shot blocker side to push the Raiders' lead to two.
- Anna Maria generated sustained pressure in the offensive zone once again but couldn't find twine, keeping Rivier ahead by two after two periods.
- The Raiders logged two more tallies in the final 20 minutes of action, with their first coming of the stick of sophomore Keegan McGaheran at 7:26.
- First-year's Chloe Bryda and Lexi Davies linked up to close out the contest on the powerplay, as Davies tucked in the fifth and final.
