Men’s Basketball Fends off Emmanuel (Mass.), 72-70

BOSTON, Mass. – The Rivier men's basketball team closed out non-conference play with a 72-70 win over Emmanuel (Mass.) Tuesday evening at the Jean Yawkey Center.

With the win, the Raiders improved to 7-6, while the Saints fell to 6-7.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Sophomore Matt Youngquist opened the contest's scoring with a jumper following a scoreless run by both teams for the opening two minutes.
  • Emmanuel (Mass.) one-upped the opening score with a three pointer to take a 3-2 lead.
  • After senior Izaiah Shaw-Glen broke the 7-7 deadlock with a turnaround jump shot, Rivier completed an 8-6 run behind interior scoring from Shaw-Glen and senior Robenson Baguidy to take a 17-13 lead.
  • The Saints answered with a 7-0 run to take a 20-17 lead.
  • Youngquist knocked down a three-pointer with 7:12 remaining in the first half and fueled an 12-4 run that was capped off by a layup from first-year Daylen Dalcour to take a 29-24 advantage.
  • Emmanuel (Mass.) chipped away at Rivier's lead at the end of the first half, but late buckets from Baguidy gave the Raiders a 32-28 lead heading into halftime.
  • Both teams traded scores up to the midway point of the second half, however Rivier held a 53-52 lead.
  • Following a three from senior Jamari Williams, the Saints took their first lead of the half and maintained it until Baguidy knocked down a triple with 3:37 to play, giving the Raiders a 63-62 lead.
  • Both squads once again traded opportunities, but Rivier was able to hang on as Matt Youngquist sealed the game, 72-70 at the free throw line.
BOX SCORE BREAKDOWN
  • Baguidy led all scorers with 26 points, adding 9 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 steals.
  • Shaw-Glen followed with 19 points on 5–8 shooting and a perfect 8–8 from the line, along with 5 rebounds.
  • Youngquist added 14 points, including two threes, and pulled down 7 rebounds.
  • As a team Rivier shot 46.9% from the field and 76.9% from the line, while outrebounding Emmanuel 43–29.
