Women’s Ice Hockey Completes Comeback Over Salem St. in Overtime, 2-1

SALEM, Mass. – The Rivier women's ice hockey team completed the come from behind victory in overtime, 2-1, Friday evening at Rockett Arena against Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) foe Salem St.

With the results, the Raiders improved to 13-6-0 (8-2-0 MASCAC), while the Vikings fell to 6-12-2 (5-3-2 MASCAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Salem St. controlled the pace of play through the opening nine minutes of the first period, outshooting Rivier 7-5.
  • The Vikings ended the stalemate at 9:26 in the first with a power-play goal.
  • The Raiders responded with more consistent pressure in the offensive zone, ending the period leading in shots on goal 12-8.
  • Both teams traded chances opportunities to open the second period (check with actual box score)
  • Rivier capitalized on a 5-on-3 opportunity to tie the game at 1, as first-year Maeve Kelly recorded her first career goal on a tip in the slot off helpers from seniors Jessica Driscoll and Molly Dukesherer just shy of the midway point of the second period
  • Salem St. was awarded two consecutive penalties late, allowing for consistent time in the offensive zone however, junior goaltender Taylor Bruno stopped all five shots she faced to keep the game level at one after two.
  • Both teams battled through a scoreless third period to force the third overtime period between these two teams this season.
  • With 2:00 minutes remaining in overtime, sophomore Keegan McGaheran won at the dot and found first-year Chloe Bryda, the current points and goals leader in the MASCAC, in front of the net to secure the 2-1 victory.
