Men's Volleyball Fell to Lasell, 3-1

NASHUA, N.H. –  The Rivier men's volleyball team fell to Lasell, 3-1 (19-25, 16-25,25-27, 25-11) on Tuesday evening in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play in the Muldoon Center.

With the result, the Raiders dropped to 11-11 (3-2 GNAC), while the Lasers improved to 16-4 (5-0 GNAC).

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The squads traded points early before the Lasers found momentum, pulling ahead 12-6. 
  • Two kills from first-year Everett Boyer and an ace by sophomore Cade Barron sparked Rivier midway through, trimming the deficit to 13-9.
  • A stretch of service errors on both sides brought the score to 20-14 in favor of Lasell.
  • The Raiders closed within five, 23-18, after a kill from junior Tyler Dickinson, but Lasell held on to take the set 25-19.
  • In the second set, Lasell opened with four straight points before a kill by sophomore Cody Fitzpatrickput the Raiders on the board.
  • Lasell stayed in control, using a 10-4 run before a kill from senior Bassam Awde slowed the momentum.
  • Late in the set, the Raiders put together a small run highlighted by a Barron kill and an ace from senior Matthew McCloskey to cut the lead to 23-14.
  • The Lasers remained in control, closing out the set 25-16.
  • The third set was tightly contested, with both squads going back and forth throughout.
  • Lasell jumped out to a 2-0 lead, but the Raiders capitalized on errors to tie it 2-2 before taking a 5-4 edge behind a service ace from first-year Kenji Clark and a kill by Awde.
  • The Lasers evened it at 6-6, but Rivier responded with their largest lead of the set at 10-7, forcing a Lasell timeout.
  • A kill from Dickinson kept the Raiders ahead 11-8, though Lasell rallied again to tie it 13-13.
  • The teams traded points to 17-17 before Lasell used a 3-0 push to take a 20-17 lead, forcing Rivier into a timeout.
  • The Raiders responded out of the break with kills from McCloskey and back-to-back kills by junior Justin Barish to even the score at 20-20, prompting a Lasell timeout.
  • A kill by Awde gave Rivier a 24-23 lead, but Lasell answered to tie it at 24-24. Awde came through again to put the Raiders back in front.
  • A kill from Boyer and a Lasell attack error sealed the set for Rivier, 27-25.
  • In the fourth set, the Raiders jumped out to a 3-0 lead and held a 4-2 edge behind two kills from  Boyer before Lasell evened it at 4-4.
  • Lasell found its rhythm, using a dominant 15-3 run to take a 17-7 lead and force a Rivier timeout
  • Rivier capitalized on a few errors out of the break, but Lasell stayed in control to close out the set, 25-11.
BOX SCORE BREAKDOWN
  • Awde led with seven kills, hitting at a .462 clip.
  • Dickinson had five kills, hitting a at .200. 
  • Barish led with 21 assists.
