Men’s Lacrosse Defeats Mitchell, 28-1

NEW LONDON, N.H. – The Rivier men's lacrosse team bested Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) opponent Mitchell, 28-1, Monday afternoon at Alumni Field.

With the win, the Raiders improved to 10-0 (6-0 GNAC), while the Mariners fell to 0-5 (0-5 GNAC).

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Rivier opened the contest with 11 unanswered goals in the first 15 minutes. Sophomore James DelPrete ignited the scoring with an unassisted tally, followed by back-to-back goals from sophomores Aiden Conley and Liam Conley at 11:34 and 11:28. A. Conley added two more goals to complete his hat trick and give the Raiders a 5–0 lead. DelPrete netted his second of the quarter on a feed from first-year Henri Brochu before first-year Andrew Nee scored twice in succession to push the advantage to 8–0. First-year Conor Walsh added his first goal of the afternoon with 3:11 remaining in the frame. Brochu later assisted on DelPrete's third goal with 2:22 to play, and first-year Lucas Doherty capped the quarter by scoring his second goal of the season.
  • Rivier maintained momentum in the second quarter. First-year Cooper Goodman found the back of the net off an assist from sophomore Tyler Zehr to make it 12–0. A. Conley recorded his fourth goal of the game on Brochu's third assist before Mitchell scored its first goal at the 9:15 mark. Sophomore Mason Schultz struck twice to extend the Raiders' lead, and Walsh closed out the half with a last-second goal off a pass from junior Zachary Gessner.
  • Rivier carried its momentum into the second half, scoring six goals in the third quarter. First-years Drew Mosier and Colin Foley combined for the opening goal of the half. Schultz followed with back-to-back tallies once again before first-year Mario Simeone connected with junior Charles Taylor V to give the Raiders a 20–1 lead. Goodman scored his second goal of the game with 1:45 remaining in the quarter, and first-year Dylan Magazzu registered his first collegiate goal with nine seconds left on the clock.
  • Mosier opened the fourth quarter with an unassisted goal before Foley scored three times, with the third coming off a pass from first-year Brogan Arivella, to take a 25-1 lead with 6:30 to remaining in the contest. Maguzza and Gessner added two more goals down the stretch, sealing the 28-1 victory.

  • 13 different Raiders found the back of the net, with four recording three or more goals.
  • L. Conley led the team with a career-high 17 ground balls, while going 20 of 22 in the faceoff circle.
  • Foley posted a team-high three caused turnovers.
  • Sophomore Jake Lydon, sophomore Will Corton, and junior Lucas Fitts combined for four saves in the win.
