Women’s Lacrosse Comes Up Short at Colby-Sawyer

NEW LONDON, N.H. – The Rivier women's lacrosse team fell 10-7 Tuesday evening to Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) opponent Colby-Sawer.

With the loss, the Raiders dropped to 7-8 (5-6 GNAC), while the Chargers improved to 12-3 (8-3 GNAC).

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Colby-Sawyer struck twice in the opening six minutes before sophomore Brooke Carter put Rivier on the board with an unassisted finish at 5:38. First-year Hayleigh Young evened the score just over a minute later, converting a free-position attempt to make it 2–2. Neither side broke through the rest of the quarter, sending the game tied into the second.
  • The Raiders grabbed their first lead when junior Sofia Cebrero found first-year Olivia Wheeler at the 12:14 mark. The Chargers responded quickly, reclaiming a 4–3 edge over the next two minutes and adding another goal with seven minutes remaining to take a 5–3 advantage into halftime.
  • Colby-Sawyer carried the momentum out of the break, scoring three times in the third quarter. Rivier answered with one goal in the frame, as first-year Kaycie Hudon connected with Chloe Waldron to cut the deficit to four.
  • After nearly 13 minutes of scoreless play, Rivier mounted a comeback bid that began with Hudon scoring her first of the game followed by Wheeler recording her second. With 22 seconds remaining, Young converted her second free position shot of the day to make it a two-goal game however, the Chargers sealed the victory, scoring their 10th with one second remaining in the game.
