Softball Takes Two Against GNAC Foe Colby-Sawyer

NASHUA, N.H. – The Rivier softball team swept Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) opponent Colby-Sawyer on Wednesday afternoon at Raider Diamond, earning a 4-2 victory in the opener before cruising to a 13-2 win in game two.

With the sweep, the Raiders improved to 12-14 (9-3 GNAC) on the season, while the Chargers fell to 1-14 (1-10 GNAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Colby-Sawyer took an early 2-0 lead in the second inning behind a pair of runs.
  • Rivier answered in the fourth, stringing together five hits to plate three runs and take a 3-2 advantage. 
  • Senior Kyleigh Guerette drove in the first run before first-year Emma Politz followed with a sacrifice fly to even the score.
  • Senior Kylee Caetano delivered the go-ahead RBI single later in the inning to give the Raiders the lead.
  • The Raiders added an insurance run in the fifth as junior Liv Harnish knocked in classmate, Sophia Quinlan, who doubled earlier in the inning.
  •  Rivier's pitching staff held Colby-Sawyer scoreless over the final five innings to secure the win.

  • Rivier totaled 11 hits, led by Quinlan's three-hit performance.
  • Politz and Caetano each added two hits and an RBI.
  • Harnish finished with two hits and an RBI
  • Senior Hayley Rapaglia earned the win in the circle, while junior Hayleigh Silva recorded the save with three scoreless innings in relief.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Raiders jumped out to a fast start, scoring four runs in the first inning highlighted by a two-RBI double from Quinlan.
  • Rivier exploded for six runs in the second inning to extend the lead to 10-0
  • Politz and Silva each drove in runs before senior Olivia Couto delivered a two-RBI triple.
  • Rapaglia added an RBI single, and the Raiders capitalized on a wild pitch to cap the inning scoring senior Avry Nelson
  • Rivier added two runs in the third and one more in the fifth to push the lead to 13-0.
  • Colby-Sawyer broke through with a two-run home run in the fifth, but the Raiders closed out the run-rule victory.
BOX SCORE BREAKDOWN
  • Rivier recorded 13 hits and 12 RBI in the win.
  • Caetano led the offense with three hits and four runs scored.
  • Nelson added three hits and three RBI eclipsing the 100th career hit milestone
  • Junior Hailey Berube earned the win in the circle, allowing just two runs on three hits over five innings.
