Baseball Splits Regular Season Finale with Elms

HOLYOKE, Mass. – The Rivier baseball team closed out the regular season splitting a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) doubleheader at Elms, taking game one 11-6, before dropping game two 8-6 at Mackenzie Stadium.

With the result, the Raiders moved to 14-21 (7-13 GNAC), while the Blazers moved to 13-21 (7-13 GNAC).

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Raiders erupted for eight runs in the third inning to seize the lead.  Juniors Colton Colleran and Liam Stott sparked the rally with RBI singles. Senior Nathan Innerfield followed with an RBI double, and sophomore David Miller drew a bases-loaded walk to bring Innerfield home.
  • Junior Alex Galicano added a sacrifice fly to score Reis, then senior Owen Medlock kept the momentum going with an RBI single. Colleran capped the inning with a sacrifice fly, allowing Miller to score and make it 8-0.
  • In the fourth, Rivier kept the pressure on, stretching the lead to 9-0 as senior Dylan Aliberti grounded out to bring home Innerfield.
  • The Blazers answered in the fifth, breaking through to trim the deficit to 9-1.
  • The Raiders came right back in the sixth, adding another run when Aliberti reached on a shortstop error that allowed Reis to score. Elms responded with two runs in the bottom half, making it 10-3.
  • Innerfield drew a bases-loaded walk in the seventh to push the lead further, scoring first-year Kian Littlefield.
  • Elms made one last effort with three runs in the bottom of the seventh, but the Raiders slammed the door, sealing an 11–6 victory.

  • Graduate student Nate Bonacorsi threw a complete game to improve to 2-1 on the year, behind three strikeouts.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Blazers struck first in the second inning, jumping out to a 3-0 lead.
  • The Raiders answered at the top of the third when Miller reached on an error, allowing Innerfield to score and cut it to 3-1.
  • Elms responded immediately in the bottom half with two runs to extend the lead to 5-1.
  • Innerfield delivered in the fourth, ripping a double to right-center to score Colleran and sophomore Jayce Martinez, trimming the deficit to 5-3.
  • In the sixth, the Blazers created more separation, adding three runs to make it 8-3.
  • Miller drove in another run in the seventh with a groundout that brought Reis home, cutting the deficit to 8-4.
  • The Raiders made a late push in the ninth as Miller reached on an error, scoring both Aliberti and Reis, but Elms closed it out with a final strikeout to secure the 8-6 win.
