Women’s Lacrosse Bested by Saint Joseph’s (Me.)

NASHUA, N.H. – The Rivier women's lacrosse team fell to Saint Joseph's (Me.) in a midweek Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) meeting at Joanne Merrill Field.

With the loss, the Raiders dopped to 6-7 (4-5 GNAC), while the Monks improved to 10-3 (9-0 GNAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Saint Joseph's set the tone early, scoring four straight to open the game and take a 4-0 lead. Rivier broke through at 1:57 with a goal from junior Shaelyn Burke off a pass from sophomore Keegan McGaheran. The Monks added one more with 53 seconds remaining in the frame to make it 5-1.
  • Saint Joseph's added to their lead early in the second, pushing the advantage to 7-1 in the first six minutes of play. The Raiders responded with two goals, as junior Sofia Cebrero scored on her own before setting up first-year Kaycie Hudon for another. The Monks continued to have success in the attacking half, scoring twice later in the quarter to take a 9-3 lead into halftime.
  • Saint Joseph's opened the second half with a goal, but Rivier put together its best stretch of the game with back-to-back goals from first-year Olivia Wheeler and sophomore Brooke Carter to cut into the deficit, 10-5. The Monks took back their six-goal advantage late in the quarter with a goal at the 1:35 mark.
  • Saint Joseph's added a woman-up goal early in the fourth before Cebrero responded for Rivier. The Monks continued to control the pace, adding three more goals down the stretch. First-year Hayleigh Young scored a woman-up goal late for the Raiders, but Saint Joseph's sealed the 15-7 victory with a women-down tally with 26 seconds left in the game.
