NORTHFIELD, Vt. - The Rivier women's soccer team battled back from an early deficit to earn a 2-1 victory over Norwich on Wednesday evening in a Great North Athletic Conference (GNAC) matchup.
With the result, the Raiders improved to 3-1-1 (2-0-0 GNAC), while the Cadets dropped to 4-1-0 (1-1-0 GNAC).
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Rivier opened the contest with Olivia Rosario in net for the Raiders.
- The Raiders generated early offensive pressure, recording nine shots in the opening half.
- Leah Morrier and Kelly Callahan each recorded two shots in the first half, including one on goal.
- Norwich was the first to find the back of the net in the opening half to take an early lead.
- The Raiders answered with a goal of their own, as junior Hannah Smith scored off an assist from Hayleigh Young to level the contest at 1-1.
- Rosario made three saves in the opening 45 minutes and the Raiders and Cadets entered halftime tied, 1-1.
- Rivier continued to pressure the Norwich defense in the second half, registering 11 shots.
- The Raiders regained the lead in the second half, after Morrier netted a shot to take the 2-1 advantage.
